<summary>How do I upload a CSV to Drivetrain?</summary>

You can upload a CSV to Drivetrain in a few different ways depending on what you want to do.

There are three main ways to import CSVs:

#### **1. Upload to a List** (for model-specific planning data)

Use this when you want to import planning data that evolves over time—such as headcount, hiring plans, or vendor lists—directly into a model.

In Drivetrain, a **list** is a lightweight dataset that lives inside a model and is versioned along with it. Unlike datasets that remain static across versions, lists adapt as your model changes. This makes them ideal for planning scenarios where values differ between model versions.

**To upload:**

1. Open your model and go to the **Lists** page.
2. Create or open a list.
3. Click **Upload CSV**.
4. Choose your file, then click **Validate and Save**.

**Notes:**

* The column names in the CSV must exactly match the list’s column names.
* Uploading a CSV overwrites existing rows unless you append data with the same structure.

#### **2. Upload via a spreadsheet or storage connector (recommended for recurring imports)**

Use this when you want Drivetrain to automatically fetch data from an external file—such as from Google Sheets, OneDrive, or cloud storage—on a recurring basis.

**To upload:**

1. Go to the **Data** page.
2. Click **+ New data source**.
3. Select a connector such as **Google Sheets**, **OneDrive**, **Google Cloud Storage (GCS)**, **SFTP**, etc.
4. Connect your account and provide the file URL or path.
5. Save the connection.

For OneDrive, GCS, or SFTP, you can place CSVs in the configured folder or bucket for scheduled ingestion.

#### **3. Upload to update plan or forecast values for a variable**

Use this when you want to modify plan or forecast data directly in a model variable.

**To upload:**

1. Open your model and locate the variable you want to update.
2. Hover over it, click the vertical ellipsis (⋮), and select **Import/Export → Export CSV template**.
   * Edit the exported CSV and save it. *(Skip this step if you already have a prepared file.)*
3. Click **Import/Export → Import CSV**.
4. Review the preview popup for any errors and correct them if needed.
5. Click **Validate and Save** to complete the import.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://integrations.drivetrain.ai/integration-guide/readme/spreadsheets.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
